Reading Four Spaces or running its style checker needs no sign-up of any kind. There is no account, comment form, newsletter, advertising, affiliate tracking or analytics here, and the site sets no cookies.

The style checker

The checker on the home page runs entirely in your browser, in JavaScript served by this site. The code you paste or the file you open is read by your browser only: it is not uploaded, stored, logged or shared, and nothing is kept after you close the page. The "Copy report" button writes to your own clipboard.

What is collected

• By Four Spaces itself: nothing. The articles and the checker are plain static files, and no script on them counts readers or follows them from one PEP 8 guide to the next.
• By Cloudflare, our host: like any web server, it records request data (IP address, time, the article or checker file asked for) so that it can deliver pages and fend off attacks. Its address is given in the legal notice.

Fonts and images

The typefaces used on this site, Bitter, Red Hat Text and Red Hat Mono (all under the SIL Open Font License), are served by the site itself. Your browser does not connect to Google Fonts or any other font service. All photographs are also stored on this site; their sources are listed on the photo credits page.

No third-party services

Nothing is embedded from another service: no video player, map, share button, comment widget or ad script sits beside the code examples.

Links to other sites

Articles link to the Python documentation, PEPs, tool documentation and public institutions so that you can check the sources. Those links carry no tracking codes. The sites they lead to have their own privacy policies.
